I'd like to introduce our speaker today, Kris Holloway, who is the author of Monique and the Mango Rains- Two Years with a Midwife in Mali. This colloquium is also sponsored by the Cornell Global Public Health Program, Cornell Health International, and the Cornell Student Society for Public Health. SPEAKER: Good afternoon, everyone, and thank you for coming to the 2009 Colloquium Series for the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs. She lives in Northampton, MA with John.ANNOUNCER: This is a production of Cornell University. She is a confirmed Francophile, a devoted (if slow) runner, and loves camping, board games, and chocolate, preferable together. She is the proud mom of two sons who have studied and volunteered abroad in Norway, Portugal, Nepal, Mexico, Ecuador, Spain, Thailand, and Costa Rica.

Kris is President of CISabroad, a leading education abroad organization responsible that has sent thousands of students to study and intern abroad worldwide. She used her unique background in writing, public health, and development to further the mission of numerous non-profits and educational institutions including Planned Parenthood, the National Priorities Project, the University of Michigan, and the Greenbelt Movement International. She holds a MPH from the University of Michigan where she focused her research on maternal and child health.

Kris served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa, where she met her husband and Shores Beyond Shores co-author John Bidwell. She has delivered hundreds of presentations, and Monique and the Mango Rains remains a favorite “common read” and is used in 150+ college and university courses. She is also co-author of Shores Beyond Shores: from Holocaust to Hope.
